JOHN-MARTIN GREEN A Doctor of Health Education, John-Martin Green is Founder and Executive Director of The Gatekeeper's Collective (TGC), (www.thegatekeeperscollective.com), a resiliency enhancement network of same gender loving (SGL) African descended men which works to facilitate identity reformation, empowerment, health promotion and wellness. TGC operates as a self-reclamation center where participants commit to unlearning internalized racial and sexual oppression, integrating their multiple identities, aligning with their leadership potential, and becoming proactive change agents in their communities. TGC strives to tap and celebrate the brilliance, beauty, and power of same gender loving African descended men even as we reconfigure ourselves and our communities.
As Co-Founder and Co-Artistic Director of Blackberry Productions Theatre Company, (www.blackberryproductionsco.org) John-Martin develops and produces theater that sheds light on issues impacting our communities and creates forums for a multiplicity of voices and perspectives in solution-focused reflection. In addition to producing and directing theatre works in settings as varied as colleges, prisons, schools, and community-based organizations, alongside commercial theater venues from Ensemble Studio Theater to the world famous Apollo Theatre, John-Martin Green has developed arts education models which have primed students to think critically about the societal issues they explored, and primed audiences in like fashion through the plays and cultural forums he has mounted with his partners. His directing credits include: "The Rootwoman" by Michael Bradford at Harlem Stage, "Three Sisters," "Willie’s Cut & Shine," and "A Different Flava" at Ensemble Studio Theatre, and "The Hand that Slapped Kate" at Bay Street Theatre.
Dr. Green teaches Community Health, Interpersonal Relations, and Nutrition at Hostos Community College, of the City University of New York, and has taught theatre at New School University, Brooklyn College, and SUNY campuses at Old Westbury and Nassau Community College.
