MATT SCHATZ is a playwright, lyricist and composer, whose full-length plays and musicals include The Tallest Building in the World (Luna Stage) Love Trapezoid (finalist, O’Neill National Music Theater Conference and Yale Institute for Music Theatre), Exchanges (music by Michael Kooman) and The Baby is Blue (MITF) among others. Matt has written music and lyrics for many one-act musicals, most recently Richie Farmer Will Have His Revenge on Durham, with bookwriter Diana Grisianti (“Best of Fest” at Austin’s FronteraFest), and Roanoke by Michael Lew (Humana Festival/Heideman Award Finalist). Matt is a three-time recipient of an EST/Sloan Commission and a two-time Shubert Fellow. He has been a finalist for the Fred Ebb Award for Excellence in Musical Theater Songwriting, the Page 73 Playwriting Fellowship, and a semi-finalist for the Princess Grace Playwriting Fellowship. Member: the BMI Advanced Musical Theatre Workshop and the Dramatist Guild. Alumnus: P73’s “Interstate 73,” Youngblood at EST. MFA: Carnegie Mellon University. Matt lives with his wife Jenna Hymes in the Sunnyside neighborhood of Queens.
