Cassandra Medley’s plays include Noon Day Sun (Diverse City Theatre Company, New York), Relativity (L.A. Repertory Theatre; Kuntu Repertory of Pittsburg; Southern Repertory of New Orleans; Ensemble Studio Theatre; St. Louis Black Repertory Theatre; Magic Theatre, San Francisco), Waking Women (People’s Light Theatre, PA) and Dearborn Heights (Vital Theatre Company, New York; Act One Theater Festival, Los Angeles). Relativity won the 2006 Audelco “August Wilson Playwriting” Award and was featured on Science Friday, National Public Radio. Cassandra’s plays have been published by Broadway Play Publishing, Faber and Faber, Samuel French, Inc. and Smith & Kraus Publishers. In addition, Cassandra is the recipient of numerous honors and awards including: New York Foundation for the Arts Grant (1986); NewYork State Council on the Arts Grant (1987); National Endowment for the Arts Grant in Playwrighting (1990); New Professional Theatre Award (1995); Marilyn Simpson Award (1995); Theatrefest Regional Playwriting Award for Best Play (2001); Ensemble Studio Theatre 25th Anniversary Award for Theatre Excellence (2002); “Going to the River Writers” Life Achievement Award (2004); and the Audelco August Wilson Playwriting Award (2006). Cassandra teaches playwriting at Sarah Lawrence College. She has also taught at New York University, and has served as guest artist at Columbia University, the University of Iowa Playwrights Workshop and Seattle University. From 1995-1997 Cassandra worked as a staff writer for ABC Television: One Life to Live. She is a playwright member of the Ensemble Studio Theatre, and New River Dramatists.
