We are now accepting applications for the
EST Residency for Emerging Directors!

The EST Director in Residence program provides a forum for emerging directors to be actively involved in the workings of the Ensemble Studio Theatre. This program is ideal for directors who are interested in learning about the full range of steps and responsibilities involved in selecting and mounting readings, workshops and productions. The resident directors work with artistic staff throughout the season to facilitate all EST programming. The program is best suited to directors who are interested in fostering new work, as the focus of much of the resident director program is new play development and production. We are committed to offering resident directors the opportunity to direct (with two guaranteed short projects during the season, and the possibility for others to arise during the residency), so we are looking for candidates who have the necessary experience and training to be given artistic responsibility. We will only consider applicants who have had at least a year of theatrical experience out of college or who have an MFA.

Resident Director responsibilities will include:

  • Associate Producing various events and productions at EST
  • Coordinating member readings and workshops
  • Work as an assistant director and/or dramaturg on productions
  • Literary management, script and event coverage

This is not a full-time commitment, and hours are flexible, but some day and evening availability is ideal. The program runs from September 15, 2010 to July 1, 2011.

To apply, please e-mail your resume and 1-2 page letter detailing who you are as a director (your experience, your taste, your goals) and why you feel you are a fit for EST to literary@ensemblestudiotheatre.org, Attention: Linsay Firman. Applications are due by August 1. Interviews will be scheduled in late August and early September.
